Accelerating eFuel production in Finland

In December 2023, Liquid Wind, Kanteleen Voima and Piipsan Tuulivoima signed a Letter of Intent (LOI), establishing a cooperation agreement to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of an eMethanol production facility in Haapavesi, Finland.

The planned facility will be adjacent to a bioproduct factory, which will produce bioethanol, biogas, lignin and other chemicals from domestic sawdust and forestry by-products, in order to replace imported fossil fuels.

The bioproduct factory belongs to NordFuel (owned by Kanteleen Voima) and powered by renewable energy from a new onshore wind park that will be built and operated by Piipsan Tuulivoima (part of the Puhuri group).

Quick facts:

  • Liquid Wind’s first eFuel facility project in Finland

  • Letter of Intent (LOI) signed: 2023

We are glad to cooperate with Liquid Wind, one of the most significant actors in the field of electrofuels. Circular economy and zero-waste principle are in the core of NordFuel’s business idea. Liquid Wind’s technology enables us to utilize the carbon dioxide that will come out of the biorefinery’s process the most effective way possible. The industrial infrastructure in Haapavesi offers an excellent basis for the planned electrofuel facility.
